All, right, this book concluded up being betwixt four and five stars for me. Closer to four.25, and so I will round to 4, but I was very almost tempted to round to v.

I'll become the abrasive stuff out of the manner showtime before the adept stuff cuz if I terminate on the annoying stuff I might become mad, but if I terminate on the proficient stuff, who knows, I might still round very generously up :P

Annoying:

* the constant switching back and along of POV. Like NO warning AT ALL. Like every other paragraph, and I am Not in whatsoever way exaggeratin

Abrasive:

* the constant switching back and forth of POV. Similar NO alert AT ALL. Like every other paragraph, and I am Non in any style exaggerating. There was one point when suddenly the POV switched from Wolf to Dragon and I was like huh? I had to re-read 2 pages twice to see if I missed something. I do Non similar to disrupt flow of reading to practice that. Bellyaching THE HELL OUT OF ME!

* Editing wasn't the greatest. all kinds of mistakes, but non enough to I go TOO annoyed. Didn't become whatsoever of my pet peeves

*The trope of the cute foreign woman who grabs the barbaric marauder'due south attention at first sight...blah blah... I'1000 not a huge fan of historical romance beautiful woman tropes. Too MANY!!!! Also UNORIGINAL! It annoys me correct off the bat. OK, so if she was hideous, everything wouldn't go like it did even if she was brave and smart and talented? Or if non hideous just evidently? Maybe a niggling fat? Or has stubby legs?? I really detest that trope

That'southward really nearly it. OK, 4 stars it is.

Anywho, the good stuff:

*An engaging, sympathetic, capable, strong-willed, caring heroine (despite her beauty thing).

* A well-balanced plot

that focuses on the human relationship evolution between the MCs. This may have been instant attraction, but it wasn't insta-love. Information technology took time to develop but non too long. And you see the push button and pull in a very comprehensive style. Information technology evolved very naturally.

The last confrontation with the brother toward the cease surprised me at places a bit, but not in a bad manner. I was just about to exist like - oh, that was anticlimatic, until things turned the corner.

My fave scene that made me Beloved WOLF so difficult was when after Cymbra pretty much "betrayed" him THREE times, including stabbing him (accidentally), he still forgave her, loved her plenty to LET HER GO!! And the tears in his argent eyes!! OH how my heart reached out to him...

Information technology did end kinda abruptly, tho happily, merely I have to take points off for the "dismount" fumble.

I am sooooo tempted to give this book 5 stars just for WOLF. Merely...

Information technology took me until about xl% to really get into it. I'm a fast reader. If I love a volume, it'southward gobbled down in no time at all, screw the existent world. This one had to grow on me and there were moments when I thought I'd shelve it. I'yard glad I didn't.

Thanks to Val for recommending it!

"He was her wall now, her shelter, her protection. His artillery were strong and they would never let her go." Characters
Wolf (Lord of Sciringesheal, Viking)
Wolf is the leader of the Vikings and wants to strike a bargain with the Saxons to bring peace among the ii. Wolf is a strong leader, loved by his people and a valiant warrior.
"He was a proud, strong, fifty-fifty big-headed man bred in a violent globe and accepted to absolute obedience."

Cymbra (Saxon):
Cymbra has a "special souvenir" so her blood brother moved her to a more isolated island. She is a healer but has been somewhat sheltered and is a chip naive. She has a skillful middle and is empathetic.
"The great healers are like that, my ma always said. They tin experience the suffering of others merely they take to exist able to protect themselves lest they be destroyed by it."

The Story:
Wolf offered peace and was rudely rejected, then he decides to kidnap Cymbra and he makes certain he marries her quickly.
"She was a gently reared daughter, schooled in the duties of a lady. Subsequently this night, she'd make a dainty, quiet, docile wife, exactly as he had expected. He was quite confident of that, he told himself groggily. There was no dubiety about it. No dubiety at all."

Well, of class she wasn't a docile wife (what fun would that be 😉).

My Thoughts:
Sometimes Cymbra really bellyaching me. Was she capable of following Any of Wolf's orders? Ummm, no! 😠 She constantly ignored everything she was asked to exercise, which just seemed to undermine her hubby's authority and everyone's perception of Wolf's ability to pb. Her actions did more damage than good and I got irritated because I didn't feel like she was a skillful nugget to her husband.

A good portion of the story dragged at times. At that place were long periods where nothing exciting was going on and the stuff that was happening just wasn't relevant to the overall plot. I got a bit bored. 😴😴 Then, I felt it was a scrap of a snooze-fest at times and I skipped pages.

There was cypher unusual or unique about the plot. I take read this in many Viking stories, so I had a hard time staying engaged. I wish the writer would have explored Cymbra's "special gift" a piddling more. It was introduced similar it was a big bargain and then glossed over for the remainder of the book.

There was a sex activity scene where it actually seemed like Cymbra might take had sex with someone else who pretended to be her hubby. It was "dark", she was "one-half comatose", it wasn't their "usual coupling", and he "left immediately"and didn't stay and snuggle with her afterwards. It was very odd and it was told in a way that seemed like something nefarious happened. Merely....null came of information technology, then why was it fifty-fifty in the book? This drove me CRAZY because I kept waiting for the bomb 💣 to drop. Nothing...Aught. 😒 So what was the point of that?? Argh 😤

Overall this was but ok for me. I liked Wolf but I'm not sure I am invested enough to read the side by side volume in the series.

Quotes
"Wolf lifted his eyes to the ceiling, fighting for control, praying for patience. Women seemed to need to talk under circumstances where any man would have the sense to keep his mouth shut, or detect a better apply for information technology."

"That may be the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I'thou non sure, maybe it's just the second or tertiary stupidest, but I remember it actually does have a take chances at existence starting time."

"Perchance it was impossible to have both Cymbra's unquestioning obedience and her loyalty likewise. Perhaps to win her loyalty, he had first to give her his own trust."

I enjoyed it but plant myself bellyaching with Cymbra's martyrish TSTL moments. I loved the MCs but felt like the writer dropped the ball in their reunion. (view spoiler)[Wolf really needed to practise some grovelling merely Cymbra was one of those heroines who forgives (too) quickly and it was all brushed aside with the nascency of their kid. I was super pissed. The author had lots of forshadowing about how their marriage couldn't be strong until Wolf learned to trust Cymbra. But in the end he didn't trust her (propably because of her idiotic martyish reasoning) and never apologized for it. So in a sense, Wolf failed the exam and I wondered why the writer had put forward the whole elaborate ready up that lead to it??? And why have her accidentally stab him? Ridiculous. (hide spoiler)]

The question of who sent the fraudulent reply to Wolf that started it all (view spoiler)[will continue into the next volume. Merely it's pretty darn obvious with one of those monologuing villains I detest. (hibernate spoiler)]

Safety is fine (view spoiler)[There is brief mention that he'south had women before, but nosotros never meet them or know their names. His blood brother brings up their visit to a harem but again no details. Cymbra is of class a virgin. Both stay true during their separation. (hibernate spoiler)]

The H thought the heroine had very rudely rejected his spousal relationship proposal - intended to form an alliance betwixt the Norse and the Saxons. She didn't and from pretty much the first second he saw her he was all googly eyed and revenge was no longer an issue. Personally, I love a adept vengeful hero who has to atone later. Really, he didn't have annihilation to atone for. The guy was nearly perfect.

The h was nearly perfect in many means as well, but she too made decisions that had me feeling she was borderline tstl. She defied her husband every unmarried fourth dimension he asked something of her. Sometimes I think she did it just to bear witness she was a liberated adult female (which makes Zilch sense in the context of the times). She ended upwardly causing quite a few problems with her constant defiance (and pouting when she didn't get her manner).

How he reacts to her publicly defying him is also unlikely given the times. He is the Viking Jarl for Pete'southward sake. You'd call up he'd have at to the lowest degree followed through on his threat of a good spanking, instead they had a food fight followed by sexy times.

Don't go me wrong, I am non a fan of heroes who constantly abuse the heroine. Only, I also like to experience immersed in the time period. In this case, I often felt similar these were people with modernistic morals and ideas playing dress-upward.

I look a Viking romance to be a chip grittier and the H to even be a bit of an ass at times (my favorite is Lindsey's Fires of Wintertime). To me, this was impossibly sugariness for the genre. Nevertheless, I tin can meet how many would relish it. I enjoyed it. However, I doubt it volition be on my re-read pile.

One of my favorite set ups in historical romances feature hero's that kidnap or force the heroine to marry, so this started off great for me. I liked both characters and idea the hero was fabulous. Is at that place anything sexier than a Viking? Not in my volume. I loved him! Dangerous, protective, bossy. Bank check, check, check! The heroine could accept gotten on my nerves considering information technology seemed she was e'er going against everything the hero said but in her defense, she always had expert reasons. I loved the development of the romance between the 2 characters. It read like a true love story. While not overly sexy the steamy bits were well washed and appropriate for the story.

One area I wish the author would have developed more is the heroine'south special "gift". While there was action in the story I idea another layer could accept been added by adding in more than about her capabilities and how she was affected. Also, while the heroine's beauty was important to note especially to explain why the hero made sure decisions I did get sick of hearing about it. Just a modest gripe actually.

I don't read a lot of historical romances simply every one time in a while am happy to read a skillful ane. This ane was improve than good and hit all my sweet spots. When I finished, I couldn't help merely compare the book overall to another favorite of mine, Maya Depository financial institution'south Never Seduce a Scot. Overall, a great romantic story. My just disappointment is that the second and third books in the series oasis't rated as high with my fellow readers. It seems a travesty to follow this book up with anything less than a stellar story.

When Cymbra dug deep to find truthful forcefulness of graphic symbol and inner reserves to face her "gift" and a new world of obstacles.
When the author brilliantly described two very different characters of their time, showcasing their very unlike male person and female norms moral codes, their backstories and dreams, did this story come together for me. What I liked all-time inspite of the conflicts, politics, twists and turns? The author kept of hero and heroine true to their ideals, convicted to their own choices, siblings that were interesting in their ain rights, and that their romance always laid only under the simmering surface for me to savour.

The hero is handsome and harsh to all except his cute wife. I was willing to bear with that and their generic antics, just so came the final straw. A character from the Moors was introduced, Kareem Ben Abdul.
Information technology isn't what I hated, just what's with the name? Abdul usually comes with something, for example: Abdul-Aziz or Abdul-Rahman. Abd is a word in Standard arabic that is literally translated into slave, just it is used to describe a devout follower. The ul that follows information technology is basically Instance for yous linguists. At present, does this mean that Abdul is not a name? I call up there are a lot of people called Abdul nowadays, only certainly not back then. Although I was annoyed, Litton is not the only author guilty of such inaccuracy (who cares about accuracy when information technology comes to the East amiright?).

So, allow united states become back to what I truly hated, which is portraying the Due east as the Orient. In a thing of a single page, the East and its culture were limited to: no pork or wine, harems, and no women rights, the last being something that our Middle Ages women rights activist Cymbria comments well-nigh. To give the author some credit, other characters do offering explanations, but I was already triggered.

In the finish, I call back Litton has a great author, but she should employ her skill in writing about things she has thoroughly studied and perchance coming up with interesting characters.

Dull plot development. At some points in the story, it was every bit interesting as watching drops of water trickle downwardly a wall. In my stance, the story could have been cutting in half and all the same retain everything that was good well-nigh it. The mundane details about the day-to-twenty-four hour period life of the characters were mind-numbing.
While there was nix besides annoying about the characters or the story, I have read too many historical romance novels with a similar plot to capeesh Dream of Me.

This historical romance was enjoyable to read for a few reasons:

The hero, a Viking lord , was unbelievably sweet and fierce.

The heroine was remarkable (smart, capable and beautiful)

The story described beautifully and credibly the simple but harsh life of Vikings in the middle ages (earlier they too become Christians).

My favorite office of this book was where the heroine dramatically prevented both her brother and her husband from killing each other.

Perhaps, except revenge plot at the beginning and the arranged/forced marriage that Yous can feel a flake iffy about. I acually didn't. Till this point I've read much, much worse. But possibly because of the lack of malaise [(view spoiler)[the hero is smitten by our heroine from the commencement, so all I had to practice is to expect when she will fall for him, not if ever (hide spoiler)]] I didn't admire it. I just liked it.

All in all, a good book. For in one case, I loved the human relationship between the hero and heroine and at that place were no stupid misunderstandings (only at the stop and information technology is understandable). I volition read the 2d book.
